The Fortitude Foundation
Launch Dinner
October 14th, 2023
Thanks to the support and generosity of many of you, The Fortitude Foundation is ready to grow!
We’ve had tremendous success this year providing life-changing fitness, support, and functionality to some very special human beings. As we’ve continued our journey, we have identified another benefactor, Dr. David Moon. He is ready to begin fighting for his life with our guidance and support.
The Fortitude Foundation needs your continued support to make this happen and to open up life-changing opportunities to many others as we grow through the remainder of 2023 and into 2024.
On Saturday, October 14th, we’re hosting our Launch Dinner with a silent auction. Tickets are $100 per seat, or you can donate as many seats or a whole table ($1000) to allow folks who are unable to contribute the opportunity to attend.
There will be a brief speech with dinner and a special video from some folks who have had their lives changed by The Fortitude Foundation.
All proceeds from the event and any recurring monthly donations will go toward the purchase of adaptive equipment, coaching hours for our benefactors, and the costs of running a nonprofit.
Please RSVP and send payment for your seats by Friday, October 5th.
Donations can be made through Venmo, cash, or check to The Fortitude Foundation.
We hope you can join us for this very special event! We’re changing lives with every bit of support you provide.

Dr. David Moon's Story
David has dedicated almost 30 years to serving patients as an Emergency Room physician. His life has been about balancing the chaos of the emergency room, being a wonderful and present husband/father/friend, and the serenity he found on the mountain trails. Mountain biking has been one of his true love and passion for several decades. At 55 years old, he possessed a unique blend of pragmatism and adventurous spirit. On that fateful May 23, 2023, he embarked on a quick mountain biking ride before serving his other role as carpool Dad for his son.
David stood atop Floyd Hill analyzing the exhilarating drop-off that lay before him. But it turned into a catastrophic accident where he catapulted over his handlebars. Immediately, he knew he suffered a spinal cord injury from his chest area downward. Somehow, he managed to twist his body and reach for his backpack and his cellphone. He called 911 and Flight for Life came to rescue him. He was transported to St. Anthony’s and went to emergency surgery. He spent around a week in the ICU before being transferred to Craig Hospital.
With the support of the amazing hospital staff at Craig and his unwavering resilience, David made great progress as a patient. Step by painstaking step, he relearned the basics of movement, bodily functions, and slowly regained mobility. It has been an uphill battle, but he refused to let his circumstances define him. The accident had stripped away his old life, but it had also unveiled a newfound strength within him.
The accident has tested his physical and mental fortitude, but he has emerged stronger and more determined than ever. He has learned to embrace the uncertainty of life and find joy in the simplest of victories and adventures. David is determined to get back to his love of being a carpool Dad, loving husband, his medical career, all things nature, and mountain biking.
